Lead Poisoning Prevention Week
October 23-29 is Lead Poisoning Prevention Week. Even small amounts of lead can harm a child’s health. A child with lead poisoning can have trouble learning, paying attention, and behaving. The only way to know if your child has lead poisoning is for your child to get a blood test for lead. LA County Public Health's campaign message this year is, Protect your family from lead in drinking water, especially during lead service line replacement.
We invite community organizations and health partners to join in activities and take these 5 actions to help make all Los Angeles communities lead-free.
1. Promote our Lead Poisoning Prevention Week Events
Public Health Joins Boo at the LA Zoo: Saturday, October 22, 10-4 pm
Free Lead Testing in East LA: October 24-28, 7:30 am-5 pm
2. Follow and share our social media posts starting October 19
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram @LAPublicHealth
3. Distribute our lead education materials
4. Consider Donating Prizes
Help us encourage families to learn about lead and get children tested. We are piloting an online quiz to check for lead knowledge and behavior change. Donating funds will support us in incentivizing families to participate.
5. Join and share the CA Public Health Webinar Series on Lead in Water
